Trending crafts come and go, but some on this list have been hanging on for a few years or longer!
If you haven’t tried any of these yet, maybe 2024 is the year you learn a new craft.

Punch Needle

Punch needle is going to be all over the place in 2024. This form of embroidery is quick and easy to learn, but can create some gorgeous pieces of art.

Supplies needed for punch needle crafting:

    • punch needle (they come in a variety of sizes)
    • yarn
    • scissors
    • fabric (monk’s cloth or linen are the most used)
    • hoop or frame
    • marker (to transfer the pattern)

Paper Collage

When it comes to paper collage, no two creations are alike. You can use a variety of papers while adding other mediums like paint and embellishments. You can have a theme or just go wild and add images that you find visually pleasing. The best thing about collage is that you have the freedom to do whatever you want. There are no rules here!

Supplies needed for paper collage:

    • Base (wood, canvas, anything sturdy enough to hold your art)
    • Magazines, old letters, scrap wrapping paper, basically any kind of paper or image you like
    • ModPodge
    • Acrylic paint
    • Embellishments

Terrariums

Create your own enchanted ecosystem and watch it thrive all year long. You can design these mini worlds any way you’d like using a variety of plants, stones, and miniatures. Terrariums do require a bit of maintenance so make sure you’re not neglecting your tiny garden.

Supplies needed to make a terrarium:

    • Glass container with or without a lid (depending on the type of plants you have)
    • Plants
    • Activated charcoal (Amazon)
    • Small stones or pebbles
    • Potting mix
    • Moss
    • Miniature decor

Macrame

Macrame has been popular for a long time. With its versatile boho style, I don’t imagine it going away any time soon. It’s fun, relaxing, and easy to learn.

Supplies needed for macrame:

    • Macrame cord
    • Brush (to create the fringe)
    • Scissors
    • Flexible tape measure
    • Other supplies that may vary depending on the project: dowels, jewelry findings, wooden rings, etc.

Pressed Flowers

Pressed Flowers

Pressed flower art is another versatile craft. You can use pressed flowers to make jewelry, bookmarks, wall art, cards, ornaments…..the list can go on and on. It’s a great way to preserve memories from a special occasion such as a wedding or birthday.

Supplies needed for pressing flowers:

    • Unblemished flowers picked right before full bloom
    • Heavy book or flower press
    • Parchment paper
    • Time (can take up to 2-4 weeks)

Watercolor

The versatility and beauty of watercolor painting make it a popular medium for making gorgeous art pieces. Although it can be a bit harder to nail down watercolor techniques, it is a fairly cheap craft to pick up.

Supplies needed to get started with watercolor:

    • Watercolor paints
    • Watercolor paper
    • Paintbrushes
    • Small spray bottle (to wet your paints)

Sewing

Sewing isn’t just for your grandma anymore! Younger generations are picking up on this trend. We’re hearing more and more about the environmental damage being done by fast fashion. Learning to sew and alter our own clothes is one way we can have a positive impact on the environment.

It’s also a great way to express yourself with styles that just can’t be found in stores.

Scrap Crafting

It’s so exciting to see people using up their scraps to create new things! Scrap crafting is the use of your scraps (paper, fabric, etc.) and giving it new life. Anything thing we can do to keep stuff out of the landfill is exciting to me.

    • Scraps!
    • All other supplies will vary by project

Stained Glass

Stained glass is one of the more involved and expensive-to-get-started crafts on this list, but a very beautiful and satisfying craft. It might be a good idea to take a class first to see how you like it before purchasing all of the supplies.

Basic supplies needed to get started making stained glass:

    • Glass cutting oil
    • Waffle grid
    • Running pliers
    • Grozing pliers
    • Safety glasses
    • Respirator mask

    • Soldering iron with a stand
    • 60/40 soldering lead
    • Gel flux (wear rubber gloves while using)
    • Flux brush

Terrazzo

Terrazzo Trending craft to try in 2024

Terrazzo is often seen in countertops or flooring, but lately it’s been popping up in smaller DIY crafts. It almost feels like mosiac, but a bit less patterned.

Supplies needed:

    • Broken tiles, glass, or mosaic pieces
    • White cement
    • White fine sand
    • Cardboard box or silicone mold
    • Something to mix the cement with

Furniture Restoration/Refinishing

Furniture restoration is such an amazing process. I follow a few furniture restorers on Instagram and I love watching them transform a grungy old piece of furniture into something stunning and unique.

Supplies needed to get started:

    • Paint stripper
    • Scraper
    • Wood putty or filler
    • Putty knife
    • Sander and sandpaper
    • Stain
    • Cloth rags
    • Sealer/topcoat
    • Paint (if painting)
    • Brushes and paint rollers
    • Gloves
    • Eye protection
    • Dust mask
    • Other tools as needed depending on the project
